Each earring in this pair consists of an antiqued (artificially aged) pewter key in a vintage style, hung from an antiqued-brass coloured ear hook; but one earring has also an amber coloured glass leaf, engraved with small veins, with a hanging loop made of old brass wire, while the other has a semiprecious stone howlite heart.

Howlite was discovered at Tick Canyon, California, in 1868, by Henry How (1828-1879), a Canadian chemist, geologist, and mineralogist. The howlite heart in these earrings is white with grey veining.

The earring with the glass leaf measures 57mm from top to bottom, and the earring with the heart measures 55mm. The keys are 31mm long, and 13mm across at their bows. The ear hooks are without nickel.
