Harakeke Kōrari: unique fibre art

Hand stitching on tapestry canvas. An image of leaves, stems and flowers (kōrari = inflorescence) growing up from a 'woven mat' in the solid and variegated colours of flax leaves, the effect created with horizontal and vertical long-stitch over several rows of mesh.

This is the second "Harakeke" fibre artwork in my "Whenua" range. It was created for the Creative Fibre 2022 "Celebration of Harekeke" challenge.

Main colours: oranges, greens, browns

Method: Stitching art—mainly long stitch, with couching and knots, on tapestry canvas. Framed in a simple wood frame with off-white mat board.
Fibres: Wool - knitting and tapestry wools
Canvas: medium tapestry canvas

Frame: plain white, with wide white mat board
Size: Frame 27 x 22.5 cm Visible artwork 17 x 12 cm
