Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, kupu of the day: aroha

Kia ora koutou katoa! The final instalment, day five (rima) of our exploration of maker-related kupu for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, is a more generally recognised word, but one which we feel applies very well to Felt and our makers:

aroha
1. (verb) (-ina,-tia) to love, feel pity, feel concern for, feel compassion, empathise.
2. (modifier) loving, affectionate, caring, compassionate, kindly, sympathetic, benevolent.
3. (noun) affection, sympathy, charity, compassion, love, empathy.
(Definition courtesy of Te Aka Māori-English, English-Māori Dictionary.)

When you purchase a handcrafted item from Felt, you know that you’re buying something that has been made with love. If there’s one thing our makers, artists, designers and craftspeople have in common, it’s aroha for what they do – a passion for their work and the ethos of local and handmade. This aroha is quite literally the heart of Felt.

Thank you for coming with us on our exploration of just a few creative kupu for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori – we hope you’ve enjoyed it and will keep exploring Te Reo beyond this week. Aroha nui!
