Hi. I'm Paul.
I originally trained as a potter at Dartington, Devon, UK, then went on to work for John Leach at Muchelney Pottery in Somerset, and after that as a production thrower at Phoenix Pottery in Otane NZ. Traveled back to the UK and started a pottery workshop with Catherine in Buckfastleigh, Devon, making garden ware and sagger fired pots.
Then returned to NZ and began making jewellery in Manapouri in 1998.

The Wet Dog Workshop.
The name came about because on days when I am making new work, I usually take our dog, Max, for a walk by the river in the morning before heading into the workshop. He comes home wet from a swim at the river and shares the workshop space with me.

I enjoy using simple shapes and the contrast of combining different metals and found and recycled objects into my work. I find I am influenced by the way that different metals react and behave when worked, and the wonderful tools involved in making. I favour riveting and cold joining techniques, combining brass, copper, silver and pewter. I use natural patinas to colour metal, often resulting in exciting, unpredictable and interesting results. Components made with recycled metal may often retain textures that hint at their past history.
