When I moved from London to Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington, I wondered why Christmas in the southern hemisphere is still often celebrated with winter images and food; the glory of summer is all around at Christmas time in Aotearoa!

I also found that the twinkling lights and sparkly tinsel of a traditional winter Christmas don't fit so well under a strong summer sun and long summer days and I was frustrated to find 'Kiwiana' Christmas decorations that weren’t made here in Aotearoa..

So, feeling homesick for the winter Christmases of my European childhood, I sought to embrace a Summer Christmas instead. Whilst at home with my three lovely bubs, I created some decorations inspired by Aotearoa, to make our Summer Christmases every bit as magical as traditional winter ones.The Summer Christmas Company was born!

And because Christmas is a time of celebration - not exploitation! - all our products are made in Aotearoa New Zealand by consenting adults.Our plywood products are from FSC-certified timber.
