Petrichor: the smell of hot earth after rain

Hi there, I'm Sophie (she/they), creator of Petrichor linocuts!
I am a self-taught artist working out of my spare room and a keen lifelong love of nature and the animal kingdom. As a child I was so interested in birds that I was pulled out of art class for refusing to draw anything else. As you can see not much has changed, although my wildlife repertoire has increased a little!

I began making linocut prints in 2016 and immediately fell for the medium. I love the fact that the final image is only revealed when the first test print is taken, so there is an element of surprise for the creator right until the last minute. Each print is carved over several weeks onto Japanese double sided lino, then lovingly printed in the spare room using the back of a spoon (sounds crazy but it works!). Multicoloured prints are painstakingly inked using a paintbrush to get the finest details as perfect as possible. Due to the handmade nature of my prints, each one is unique within the limited runs.

I create for the joy of it and try to price my work accessibly as I do not believe art should be only for the wealthy. I also occasionally do charity print runs for causes close to my heart. I am able to do custom works within my artistic style and subject range, please feel free to contact me if you would like a custom print.
