Living in the Bay of Plenty and surrounded by nature and landscape, artist Lois Parish Evans of LPEdesigns, finds a wealth of inspiration to fuel her creativity. Whether it is in the urban environment(gardens) or the local reserve or the bush and beach it is through a lens of line, shape, pattern and colour that Lois views the world. Lois has been passionate about creating and using textiles since early childhood.
Lois' approach to creating is to simplify and pare back to the basic structure, using line or shape to stylise the subject or to abstract the subject into a design through deconstructing and reconstructing. A practicing textile artist for many years, Lois 'draws' with her sewing machine creating thread paintings or art quilts. She is always challenging herself to grow and develop as an artist and in the last few years has been moving towards textile/mixed media utilising her photographs, hand stitching and printmaking.
