Kia ora - with the birth of my mokopuna (grandson) two years ago, I was inspired to knit a rug that could be used on the floor for baby to lie on. I could see the need for baby to have a soft yet firm rug that would be robust yet portable. To meet these requirements, I used merino wool from my brothers wool factory and experimented knitted chunky rugs using a very thick ply of wool and very large wooden needles. Within no time, I had produced a very versatile, unique baby rug. From here, I started on bags which could hold all the necessities when mum and baby were visiting. Again, I kept with the chunky look but changed the yarn to Romney wool. Having access to Merino and Romney wool from my brothers wool factory, enabled me to produce a range of bags in different colours and sizes. Instagram: pepicollection@pepiknits
