I design and hand-make a variety of vintage style hats. The hats are all inspired by the Art Deco styles of the 1920s and 1930s but are designed to be easy wear and easy care for modern wearers. My hats have no wire in the brims and most are based around the basic cloche shape meaning that they do not blow off in winds. They are glamorous enough to be worn for special occasions and events yet simple enough to be worn every day and go really well with jeans and other daily wear.
Most of the hats I make are made from wool felt. This means that they are breathable so are suitable to wear all year round (great for keeping the hot sun off your head in the summer as well as for keeping you warm in the winter). My hats are also priced to be affordable for us everyday folk (you shouldn't have to be rich to be glamorous!) and are a fraction of the price you would pay elsewhere for exclusive designs. I currently have 7 specific styles in stock (with new designs to come). All listings on the site are made to order. Please make sure you make your measurements and choice carefully as I am unable to refund on made to order items. Please feel free to ask questions before making your choice.
As well as the felt hats, I also make and stock a range of hand-felted cloches (in 100% wool) and crocheted cloches and berets (in acrylic so breathable and easy to wash). I also have a range of crocheted snoods or cowls which have proved popular. In addition to all of this I also make Art Deco inspired greeting cards for all occasions (as well as bookmarks). The cards and bookmarks are for sale only in the shop as it is too difficult and time consuming to keep the listings up to date. However, I am happy to answer any queries or questions for specific requirements.
I also renovate vintage furniture and, whilst this is mostly not quite as old in age or style as the rest of my items (though I do buy original pieces when I can), it is equally eye-catching and beautiful. Items in this range include chairs, tables, sideboards, drawer units and dressers. All furniture renovation is done thoroughly and to a high standard. I do not sell furniture which I would not be happy to have on display in my own home. I always have a backlog of furniture projects and am constantly acquiring more so if you are looking for something specific please ask. Furniture items are listed here but are strictly 'pick-up only' as they are all too big and awkward to post. Alternatively, if you are located elsewhere in the country and would like to purchase any of my furniture, I am happy for you to organise your own freight/collection.
Online hat listings are inclusive of worldwide postage costs. Alternatively, you can visit my shop/showroom at my home on Highgate in Roslyn, Dunedin, see the whole range at once and try items on. Prices in my shop are different from those online and I often have special offers.
A couple of years ago I was asked to make 2 hats in my wide brimmed Sybil style for a Hollywood production and one of them can now be seen worn by actress Rachel Weisz in the recently released 'The Light Between Oceans' (see my current avatar photo on the left side of the page).
My shop is currently open Friday to Sunday 10-5 (plus public holidays). I am happy to open the shop at other times by arrangement - please just call or email to arrange. Drop in and have a look or feel free to ask any questions.
PLEASE NOTE that all of my designs are original and are subject to copyright so any copying is strictly prohibited.
