About the Design
The "Morning Manuka" collection was inspired by the iconic Manuka flower, a symbol of resilience and life in New Zealand. Known for its healing properties and ability to thrive in tough conditions, the Manuka flower represents strength, growth, and the beauty of New Zealand’s native flora.
With a clean white background and vibrant primary and secondary colours, these designs are meant to stand out—not just for their beauty, but also for their purpose. They’ve been created specifically to make cats more visible to birds, helping to protect New Zealand’s precious wildlife.
So How Does This Work with Birds?
Birds see the world differently from us, with heightened sensitivity to bright colours and contrasting patterns. These unique visual qualities make certain colours and patterns stand out more, helping birds to detect and avoid potential threats.
The vibrant primary and secondary colours in this collection are specifically chosen to catch a bird’s attention, while the clean white background ensures the pattern is clear and visible. This combination helps birds spot your cat from a distance, giving them more time to react and stay safe.
Dots and stripes, in particular, are effective because they create visual contrasts that birds are particularly sensitive to. Dots draw attention through their simplicity, while stripes can create a sense of movement, helping to make your cat more noticeable from afar.
These collar covers help protect our birds from being harmed and/or even killed by cats. The reflective feature allows cats to be even more visible to humans and cars during the long winter nights.
They are opened on both ends, so you can easily slide in your breakaway cat collar through the cover and clip it around your cat.
To make installing the cover easier, thread through one of your collar ends through the tag inside the collar and let it act as an anchor to aid in pulling through the collar to the other end.

The length of the cat collar cover varies between 46cm to 49cm, due to it being handmade.
The width of the cat collar cover is approx. 5cm.
They are machine washable, and it is recommended to wash at 30 degrees Celcius.

When selecting the material, I had the option to choose between blouse cotton, drill, or canvas. I chose blouse cotton for its weightlessness and softness, so it is even lighter and more breathable than the pre-designed quilting cotton fabric used in my other styles (Carnival Set, Celebration Set).
