The Underwater Blues V3
Quirky and 100% unique, this tapestry shoulder bag is looking for someone to adorn.
Constructed on a portable frame loom using recycled materials it is 25cm wide amd 16cm tall with a 22cm wide mouth. It's tubular strap is 180cm long.
This bag is created entirely from reclaimed materials including satin selvedge ribbons (a locally sourced fabric waste), select bits and bobs from my sewing room scraps bin, along with hand-me-down fabric (the patterned synthetic green strap and lining) and op shop haberdashery.
The blue-green colourway was inspired by a deep sadness I was passing through.
Water has a relaxing influence on me and I like to swim for fitness and fun, but the ocean is my favourite place to be. I feel great peace when I'm deep underwater. The pressure, the quiet, the movements, and ofc the necessary breath control. But I can't sit at the bottom of the ocean every time I'm sad, so I gathered the pallette, imagined the feeling, and knotted together a tapestry that suggests seaweed forests, filtered sunlight and magical creatures.
The bag has an open mouth design, and closes with a button and loop.
Wear it cross body, over the shoulder, or slung from your wrist by looping the strap around your forearm. It sits comfortably and doesn't cut into your arm. Because of its long strap length, it can also be wrangled to be worn like a front or backpack.
