Karen Wilde is a qualified sculptor based in Auckland, New Zealand. Wilde was born in South Africa and moved straight to Waiheke Island at age ten, which was a big cultural shock at the time, mainly due to the freedom and safety that came from living in a small island community. Naturally, she fell in love with the land and the multicultural aspects of living in Aotearoa. Wilde’s artworks explore the connections between nature, ecology and human emotion – examining macro surfaces found along New Zealand coastlines and forests while collecting site-specific organic materials for experimental surface treatments.
