Hard Times Make Strong People. Ceramic, glaze, acrylic, wax polish. 33x25x20cm

A contemplative expression of the struggle for acceptance. The markmaking highlights psychological battle scars of the ongoing tension between gender expression, traditional values and religion. A snippet of a quote by G. Michael Hopf comes to mind; "hard times create strong men". While this still holds true as a powerful statement, it's clear that times have evolved. Hard times create strong people. The rabbits initially offer a softer side of Easter celebrations (the weekend of their creation), yet harbour a reminder of religious influences that are still very much present to date.
