The Promise of Spring, Banks Peninsula

"At this time of year, the earth beneath the greens, pinks, and ochres of Banks Peninsula beckons and calls for the heat and the shine of the warming sun so it can dance, sing and come alive"

My love and affinity for natural and softer curvature gravitated my hand to capture Banks Peninsulas' incredible landscapes. It is a part of New Zealand that we have enjoyed as a family for many years, so it's an easy place to draw inspiration from. Using these raw and beautiful compositions, I have produced a series of landscape works that are rich in texture and colour that hopefully either take you there or want to make you go!

First, I laid out the composition in black charcoal, fixed it, and then carefully painted it in bright acrylic colours to the charcoal edge of each of the painting's components. I then oil paint over the top, keeping ribbons of the bright underlay showing through to give the composition life, depth and interest synonymous with style across all my pieces.
