Big Bunny's King George Bean (Climbing)

This bean is rather like a shorter, rounder cousin of the borlotti bean, with similar glorious candy-striped red and white pods and a speckled bean. The story goes that they were “acquired” from the garden of King George (I don’t know which one!) by one of his gardeners.

A climber, it’s great for small gardens and looks absolutely beautiful when the numerous pods are ripe. The beans themselves can be eaten fresh as shellouts or dried for satisfying winter meals.

Plant in spring when the soil is warming and all risk of frosts has passed.
