Asymmetrical Kyanite earrings: rustic blue stones with sterling silver filled hooks

Kyanite is a semiprecious gemstone whose name comes from 'kuanos', the Greek word for 'deep blue' – the word 'cyan' comes from the same Greek root. These kyanite beads are a watery blue, with flashes of pearly, iridescent blue and grey, flecks and streaks of black, and even a little sparkle of silver, like glitter caught in the stones.
The markings and colouration of the stones vary from side to side, as shown in the photographs. The kyanite is translucent, so the shade of blue varies with the light. They are at their best in bright daylight.
The kyanite drops are wire-wrapped with non-tarnish, silver coloured, artist's quality wire, and hang from sterling silver filled ear-hooks. 'Silver filled' means that the core of the component is covered with a thick layer of silver — much thicker than silver plate. These silver-filled ear hooks are copper based, look like sterling silver to the naked eye, and will wear much better than silver plated hooks would. They are stamped "925/10SF", which means that the outer ten percent of the hook consists of .925 silver (sterling silver). They have an anti-tarnish coating to preserve their shine for even longer.
Longer pair: one earring measures 55mm from top to bottom, and the kyanite drop is 6mm across at its widest point. The other earring measures 48mm, and the kyanite drop is 8mm across.
Shorter pair: one earring measures 40mm from top to bottom, and the kyanite drop is 11mm across. The other earring measures 44mm, and the kyanite drop is 11.5mm across.
