Pretty Pebbles - Silver and Southland gemstones pendant

Pretty Good pendant - Pretty Pebbles collection.
Keep a small bit of Aoteoroa close to your heart when you wear one of these. Each pendant is totally different and made from tiny semi-precious stones gathered from beaches that look out to Stewart Island right at the bottom of the South Island. The stones are part of a coarse sand found in a secret spot and only at times when the tide and winds are right (not very often!). Painstakingly sorted into colours, then arranged in patterns and embedded in crystal clear glass resin which makes the colours of each stone glisten.
The patterns are made from the following stones:
BLACK IRON SAND
In the 1860s patches of black sand on the beach where this was collected, were found to yield very fine gold and platinum. Thus begun a gold rush and gold is still found in the area today.
HYDROGROSSULAR GARNET
Heavy and harder than steel, these stones were used by Southland Maori as hammer stones, especially for shaping Pounamu. The calcium-rich stones from our beaches are translucent yellow, brown and green.
GREEN EPIDOTE
Usually a pistachio nut or apple green colour, epidote is found alongside the older basement rocks of NZ like Schist and Greywacke. Wet pebbles on the beach are bright green and very eye-catching.
RED AND BLACK JASPER
A type of fine-grained, opaque Quartz. We use red stones but jasper can be multi-coloured. It commonly occurs alongside volcanic rocks.
SERPENTINE
Serpentine is actually a group of about 20 rocks with the same chemistry but different structure, including Bowenite - a form of Pounamu. It has a waxy finish and it good for carving.
WHITE QUARTZ
Beautiful smooth white quartz pebbles are found on some beaches in the South Island. Due to it's relative hardness, Quartz has many industrial uses such as in glass-making and as an abrasive.
This pendant is made up mainly of serpentine with some epidote stones, red and black jasper. The cross pattern is made from white quartz, shell and hydrogrossular garnet.
Set in a silver plated 1 inch pendant with a 16" silver plated snake chain with extender chain. These are all ones offs and completely individual.
