Kotiate Bone Carving Pendant
A stunning traditional Maori style Kotiate (fighting club) pendant by Don Campbell.
It Includes an adjustable braid cord and is supplied in a traditional style a woven presentation bag.
The Kotiate is 65mm long
The Maori warriors were fierce fighters who often fought hand to hand in heavily forested areas where clubs made of bone, wood or stone were often used.
The fighting style was similar to a martial art so they used a range of different clubs for different fighting styles. The main types of club are the Mere, Patu, Wahaika and Kotiate.
The Kotiate features a wide blade with cut outs on each side which with the the right technique could be used to trap an opponents blade or club.
These clubs are often gifted on special occasions as a sign of respect.
To wear or carry one of these clubs is not about being a fierce warrior, it is in fact the sign of a leader.
With leadership and power comes a responsibility to protect and care for those around you.
Only two currently available so they will be removed from the gallery when sold.
