Title: Butterfly Harmony
Size: about 43x116cm including fringe
The Thickness of the Felt artwork is about 0.5cm

This original contemporary fibre art wall hanging is made out of natural white merino wool fibres, plant-dyed silk fabric, printed silk fabric pieces, natural golden Muga silk fibres and wooden beads.
I was using a wet-felting technique called Nuno-felting .

The plant dye came from Eukalyptus leaves from my garden.
The dyeing process works through direct contact of the plant material with the wool felt and silk fabric.
It takes several hours of steaming which makes the dye colourfast (see pic. 4)

Nuno-felting is a fabric felting technique developed by Polly Stirling, a fibre artist from New South Wales, Australia, around 1992. The name "Nuno" is derived from Japanese (布) and means cloth.
The felting technique used in Nuno felting bonds loose fibre (usually sheep's wool) into a sheer fabric, such as silk gauze, creating a lightweight felt.

The artwork can be hanged on a single pin or nail with its invisible hanging system at the back.

As exhibited in the Community Arts Centre Gallery in Whanganui in March 2022 ( Front shop).
