Add colour and joy to your living space while helping to divert textile waste from landfill.

This one-of-a-kind circular braided rag rug is handmade in New Zealand out of strips of old fabric and clothing - mainly dresses, skirts, and harem pants. Each donor item has a story! The rug was made using a traditional braided rag rug technique where a length of 3-strand braid is laced together in a spiral to form the rug.

The vibrant rug would be a centre-piece to your lounge or bedroom, or provide a cozy place to sit on the floor and play with the kids. It would make the perfect zero-waste gift for your environmentally conscious friend or family, and a be conversation starter about the lifecycle of our clothing and what happens to the fabric when we are done with it.

materials: a mixture of fabric types, including cotton, rayon, viscose and cotton/polyester
size: 95 cm diameter
colours: bright jewel tones - pink, orange, green, teal, blue.

Textile waste and "fast fashion" are a huge problem, with a mind-boggling mass of clothing ending up in landfill every year. I encourage you to choose clothing made from natural materials that will last for years, and then think critically about where that clothing will go when you are finished with it. By purchasing this rug, you are helping to divert about 16 garments from landfill (and freeing up space in my home studio so I can make more rugs out of old clothing)

I take custom commissions, so please DM me if you would like to order a rug in a certain colour-scheme, or have old clothing/sheets/fabric that you would like transformed into a rug.
