Karen Wilde is a mixed-medium sculptor based in Auckland, New Zealand. Wilde’s artworks explore the connections between nature, ecology and human emotion – examining macro surfaces found along New Zealand coastlines and forests while collecting site-specific organic materials for experimental surface treatments. Her Artworks oscillate between simple round vessels and more complex figurative or Animalia forms.

This piece has been fired twice, first bisque fired in and electric kiln and then raku fired in a drum kiln, reduced in organic materials and "kissed by fire" to produce smokey and metallic black colours.
