Esther : Ink drawing with brush antique gold leaf and repurposed Bible pages
In my artwork, I embarked on a creative journey that sought to bridge the intriguing narratives of Esther, a young Jewish woman living in the Persian diaspora, and Freyja, the captivating Norse goddess of love, beauty, and war. Drawing inspiration from Esther's courage in finding favour with the king and risking her life to save her people, I envisioned a piece where Freyja's tears, reminiscent of Esther's determination, fell gracefully to Earth, turning into gold as they touched the ground, symbolizing redemption and transformation. Combining the emotional depth of Anne Marie Zilberman's portrayal of Freyja's sorrow with Florian Nicolle's artistic influence, I aimed to create a work that celebrates the strength and resilience across different cultures and narratives, highlighting the enduring themes of empowerment, sacrifice, and the potential for redemption that connect these two remarkable women.
