Flying Kiwi Enamel Pin - Special

Our adventurous Kiwi, New Zealands national bird wears his woolly hat and flys his paper plane
Designed and made in New Zealand with bright nickle plated with enamel infills.
Backed with one pin and clutch fittings.

Pin measures 40mm in width.

There is a tradition with knitters of collecting pins and enamel brooches for project bags to note where you have travelled and the craft fairs you’ve attended. I love the idea of a ‘badge of honour’ to set apart the knitting community, so have produced a delightful bird brooch that you can pin to your favourite jersey, jacket or tote. Available now is the singing Tui wearing her wooly hat.

Kiwi are unique, curious and flightless birds endemic to New Zealand. The bird itself is a taonga (treasure) to Maori, who have strong cultural, spiritual and historic associations with kiwi. Its feathers are valued in weaving kahukiwi (kiwi feather cloak) for people of high rank.
New Zealanders have been called 'Kiwis' since the nickname was bestowed by Australian soldiers in the First World War.
Kiwi are a symbol for the uniqueness of New Zealand wildlife and the value of our natural heritage.
