Purple and cream oval rug

Deep purple and cream soft crochet rug made from old flannelette sheets into an oval shape. The rug is 148cm at its longest point and 110cm at its widest point. Flannelette makes the rug very soft under foot and a pleasure to walk on. This would make a lovely rug by a fire or beside a bed - somewhere for warm snuggling!

Crochet makes the rug very forgiving. It can be pulled and stretched into position. It can be thrown into the washing machine if it gets dirty, since it is made of well washed bed-linen. Gently pull it into an oval over the washing line and it will be back to its usual shape, with a few tweaks and pulls once completely dry.

All of my rugs are hand-made by me while I sit with my family as they play. Any pieces that are not used in making the rugs are saved as soft, fluffy fill for cushions. I want to reduce our impact on our world by reusing whatever we can.

I began making rag rugs to cover our own floors when I was given a huge stash of fabric that was not useful for anything else. I joined the small pieces together in rainbow colour range, added it to old bed-linen and my new favourite occupation was born.
