Blue Hibiscus Flower Bowl
This fused glass bowl combines streaky turquoise transparent glass for the petals with shimmering dichroic glass beads in the centre. Each petal is hand cut so no two bowls are the same.
This piece was fired in the kiln twice. The first fusing, at a lower temperature than normal, meant that the petals and crushed glass centre retain lovely definition whilst still being gently rounded. The second firing used heat and gravity so that the glass flower slumped into a ceramic mold. The mold is scalloped in shape so the petals have a natural curve to them.
The bowl measures approximately 180mm in diameter and is 35mm deep.
