The lustre of these cultured fresh water pearls is breathtaking. Their iridescence is on full display when they catch the light. I've complimented the 18mm pearls with 3mm 14k gold-filled beads and wire.

Each piece of jewellery I create is unique and often one-of-a-kind, though, sometimes I make items in small limited numbers. These earrings are a one-off pair. All of the jewellery comes presented in a gift box and includes a crystal properties information card.

Pearls are soft and should be treated delicately. Never use ultrasonic cleaners or steamers. Wipe pearls gently with a soft cloth after each wearing or, for a more thorough cleaning, use mild soap and water. Take care to not use perfumes, colognes or lotions where pearls will be touching the skin as the gems will absorb what they come into contact with. Avoid lotions and skin care products which contain citrus oils, as even mild acids can dull the surface of pearls. Always remove pearls before exercising as perspiration can also negatively affect the surface.

Q: What is the difference between gold-plated and gold-filled jewellery?

A: The main difference is that gold-plated jewellery has a thin layer of gold, whereas gold-filled jewellery has a much thicker gold layer. Gold-plate is a very thin deposit of gold electroplated, or electrochemically applied, to the piece. The industry standard is 0.15 to 25 mils thickness of gold-plating to the surface of the base metal; it is a very small fraction of an inch thickness (1/1000 - 1/1,000 000 or so). Gold-filled is 50 to 100 times thicker than regular gold-plating, and is 17 to 25 times thicker than heavy gold electroplate. Gold-filled items are made by combining a layer, or layers of gold alloy to a base metal (usually brass) then rolling or drawing the metal to the desired thickness and shape. Because of this, gold-filled jewellery is more durable than gold-plated jewellery as it does not tarnish or discolour easily. Like solid gold jewellery, gold-filled items can be polished with a gold cleaning cloth, keeping them shiny for years to come.
