Hand Carved Wooden Bird Owl - Morepork / ruru

Hand carved abstract Owl made from Tasmainian Blackwood timber. Each wooden bird is lovingly carved from a custom-selected bit of locally sourced timber to provide its own unique grain pattern and character. As each one is custom carved they are all slightly different in shape and size. The upmost effort has been put in to sustainably source all of the materials used to ensure the most gentle of footprints.

The morepork is a small, dark, forest-dwelling owl. Found in both native and plantation forests, its distinctive “more-pork” call is commonly heard at night in many urban parks and well-vegetated suburbs. Moreporks are relatively common throughout much of New Zealand but are sparse through the eastern and central South Island. Their diet consists of insects, small mammals and birds, which it hunts at night.
