Fossilised Leaf Platter
This platter features a fern leaf on a green glass with a slight sparkle to it.

I used a real fern leaf to create this platter. The leaf was pressed, then layers of glass powder and silver mica applied to them. The leaf was placed in the kiln under a sheet of glass. The organic matter burned away at the high kiln temperatures required to fuse glass, and the glass powders fused with the sheet of glass to retain the intricate detail from the original leaves, hence the use of the term "fossilised'. Due to the use of silver and gold mica, the fern has a lovely shimmer to it.

This item required two separate kiln firings. The first firing fused the leaf pattern and background detail into the glass. The final firing used heat and gravity to slump the sheet of glass into an elegant curved ceramic mould to create the elegant shape of this platter.

Platter measures approximately 310mm x 190mm and 45mm deep.
