The Sound of Spring
The male Riroriro, has a beautiful voice and the word warbling is onomatopoeic to their song. They are the most widespread endemic bird species in New Zealand.
For Māori, the sound of the Riroriro signified that it was kōanga (springtime;) a time for plantation and growth. The blue tones in the painting reflect this.
