Combining weaving with my other passion of silversmithing I have produced a range of jewellery celebrating the unique cultural heritage of Aotearoa. The mekameka braid used in this bracelet was tradtionally used to make headbands (tipare). Woven by hand from solid sterling silver this bracelet offers a more hardwearing option to the flax version.
The braid is 15mm wide and approximately 12cm long and is curved to allow comfortable wearing. The bracelet is finished with a chain and catch allowing the wearer to alter the size to suit depending on which link you use for the catch. If you have particularly fine boned wrists I can make a slightly smaller braid with a chain length to size.
The mekameka braid is also available as a complete circle (i.e bangle) in either fine or medium widths. Because each item is handmade there will be small variations in each piece but if you are not entirely happy -or if you need links removed to fit, I am happy to alter or accept a return.
