Glass cabochon cuff links- Royal blue, gold cross hatching, silver cherry blossom washi paper (Japanese)- 18mm

These washi paper cabochon style cuff links are colourful, fun and elegant. Inject a bit of colour into your outfit with the royal blue washi paper (with gold cross hatching & sporadic silver blossoms) that is the highlight of this piece. Accented with a bright silver cabochon base with a matching bright silver cuff link bar and branch – the glass both protects the paper and makes the colour pop!

I selected the washi paper used in this jewellery myself on a recent trip to Japan (for my honeymoon) and decided to display it under glass in this fashion because I believe the beauty of the paper is accentuated in this setting. I didn't want to hide the elaborate patterns in origami as they would get lost.

Each set of cuff links is slightly different from that last (and from each other!), due to the slightly erratic pattern of the paper (and where the piece is cut when I assemble the piece). This means each piece is unique (and what you receive may vary slightly from what is shown in the photo- as you can see from the photo which shows the pattern. As you can see the washi paper pattern possibilities are almost endless!

The diameter of the glass cabochon on each cuff link is 18mm (0.71in)
All metal elements have a brass base metal and are nickel and lead free.

At the moment there are only 5 colour options for washi cabochon jewellery, if you have a specific request for a colour you don’t see listed, please ask, I may have the paper but just haven’t used it yet! I am happy to make a custom listing for you.

I make cuff links of the same type in different washi colours (see last photo) and necklaces and earrings from this paper, as shown in the second to last photos of this listing. You can see their listings here:

Washi is the Japanese word for the traditional papers made from the long inner fibres of three plants, wa meaning Japanese and shi meaning paper. The inner barks of three plants — kozo, mitsumata and gampi — all native to Japan, are used primarily in the making washi. For centuries, colourful designs applied by woodblock or handcut stencils have created vividly characteristic papers, for decorative use. Recently, silkscreened chiyogami (small repeated-patterned paper) is available in an unbelievable range and widely used by craftspeople and comes in hundreds of patterns. The special absorbency, strength and texture of washi results in unique images. Traditional Japanese printing was done by woodblock, but washi is also effectively used for wood engraving, linoblock, or letterpress techniques. It responds well to embossing, and can be used effectively for multi-colour lithographs and chine-collé (etching).
