The pūkeko – also known as the swamp hen – ranges beyond wetlands on to pasture and croplands. Pūkeko are bulky birds with long legs and long-toed feet adapted to swampy country. To Māori, red was a noble colour – so pūkeko, with their bright red bills and frontal shields, had high status. But the birds were unpopular because they raided gardens, damaging kūmara (sweet potato) and taro crops.

I have taken 6 of my original native bird collages, created digital versions and printed them onto plywood.

These prints of native NZ birds are printed with solvent free UV curable non-fading Osé ink onto 9mm 5-ply made from sustainable A-grade pine grown in NZ. This is cut to size (230x230mm) and hand sanded to a smooth finish. They are produced in small print runs and are all unique in wood grain. Artist's signature and print edition number is hand written on the back.

Enjoy as a one-off piece or combine with other prints to make a colorful, fun and natural statement on any wall.
