Ruru Brooch

Ruru, or the morepork, is one of New Zealand's two owls. He is the inspiration for this striking copper brooch. I get lots of comments for the prototype when I wear him.
The owl measures approx 50mm x 25mm at its widest points. I have used feathery patterning his head and wings, a wavy one on his chest, and little flowers on the koru to show his habitat. Everything has been smoothed for a silky fell, and patinated with black to create a good contrast with the glowing copper.
The brooch is made from copper, textured, hand cut, soldered, and polished in my own studio here in Christchurch.
