Diverse designs to enhance your world

Hello!
Thanks for visiting and I hope you will enjoy taking a look around at the things we make. Finding a way to live a creative and sustainable life has been a lovely journey for us and we’re always seeking new directions to explore.

Nick is an actor in both film and theatre and we work together on most of the things we make. We have a big family and they are fantastic at helping us realize our ideas, inspire new projects and keep it real!

Back in 1995 Nick began to create wind sculptures and whirligigs, selling them in Martinborough, New Zealand. At around the same time Michelle began a business specialising in the use of paint techniques on a surfaces both large and small When we got together we combined our years of experience with enthusiasm for making original objects and Whirlwind Designs came into being. We recreated some of the favourite wind sculptures and because we have a “whirlwind” of ideas we are exploring a lot of different processes and materials; fabric and wood, paint and paper, for your home, your garden and your children. It’s an ongoing fascinating business finding the best way to realize our various schemes and dreams.

Our travels in the world, along with our love of the natural environment here in New Zealand inspire us to make objects that fit with contemporary life while giving a nod to the past. We love the quirky and the unexpected and in our own life have long held beliefs in the need to reuse, rethink and recycle.
We hope you enjoy owning our designs as much as we enjoy making them. Our business is a family affair with all the crew pitching in to make it a success.
Along with the designs on show here, we welcome commissions and special projects.
