At Toms Tables I create wine tables and custom wine barrel creations. These include wine tables, racks and bottle stands. Each of my products is hand crafted by myself out of oak, recycled from old oak wine barrels.

I started Tom's Tables in 2010 in my summer holidays after seeing some wine barrel products in several Hawke's Bay wineries. I thought I could do better! I am 17 years old now and one of my goals with my woodwork is to save money for university. As well as improving my design and manufacturing skill which will be important in the future. I want to complete a 5 year architecture course at Victoria university in Wellington. Hopefully Tom's Tables will go some way towards funding the course. Now two years on I have expanded my product range from the one table I started with to lots of different items to help me achieve my goal.

Whenever I have time spare I head to my workshop in the garage and see what I can create from old wine barrels. All the wine barrels I use are sourced from local wineries in Hawkes Bay. Each barrel is made out of solid oak, this oak has no knots in it otherwise the barrel would leak so it makes the wood special to work with. I try to use all of the wood from every barrel so I have been producing some smaller items.

Recently I have also started making things out of 550 Paracord. This is a strong kind of rope which can hold around 250kg of weight.
