MY FELT SHOP IS CLOSED FOR THE MEANTIME - SORRY.
Hello - my second name is Mary, hence the Mary in Sweet Mary. The Sweet comes from the sweet smelling lavender I often use in my products! I grew up in New Zealand, in a very creative household and that creative influence came mainly from my mum who taught me to sew. She tells me that I stood up at her old treadle sewing machine at age five to make my own dolly clothes and certainly I have enjoyed making things all my life.
Besides making all the curtains, furniture covers and many of our clothes, my mum picked up a paintbrush in her fifties and started to paint the most amazing pictures. My favourites are the flowery ones dotted around my home - what an inspiration she is. So, though I don't paint, I do love to make treasures from my "flowery fabric" collection - some of them truly vintage and some new but vintage looking and all of them collected in New Zealand and while I lived for over ten years in the United Kingdom.
