Memory Mat making has been a traditional technique used for centuries. Having been looking for a way to reuse old and outgrown children's clothing, I discovered the joys (and addiction) of mat making and the excitement of reviving an ancient method of recycling which I am keen to share.

Memory Mats offer three types of tool with which to create your own Memory Mats. If you wish to make a shaggy Clippy mat then the Clippy Tool is best (using large clipped pieces of fabric pulled through the hessian).

More detailed mat work requires a Hooky Tool (which hooks through the hessian small loops of fabric to form your mat) -I have shown pictures of the relevant mats with each technique and tool.

The third tool option: the all wooden Proddy tool is the traditional tool which enables you to make both Hooky & Clippy mats, however it is not as fast or easy to use without practice- hence the other 2 metal tools were created to speed up the process.
