Kia ora and welcome to my Felt shop

I am Kāi Tahu and have southern whakapapa connections to Rakiura (Stewart island) and Maitapapa (Taiari Plains). I have been a carver for 30 years with my work drawing inspiration from the pūrākau (stories), whakapapa (genealogy), and the whenua (landscape) I interact with. As such, I am particularly interested in storytelling and integrating people's life stories into the piece I am working on. My carvings are hand-finished through many hours of sanding to achieve the final aesthetic follow of the piece. I rarely make the same piece twice, and if I do so, there is always a unique twist to give it a life of its own.

I welcome commissions and my design process involves a consultation phase where ideas and inspiration are discussed together before the creative process unfolds. Due to my creative process, commissioned pieces need 4 weeks to design and make. If you are looking for a special piece that is unique to you, then please feel free to contact me.
