Upcycling dusty Op Shop bargains to create new treasures.

Hi, I'm Shirley. When I was a little girl, I lived on a ship. My favourite area on board was called 'Charlie', a couple of rooms where everyone put clothes and items they no longer wanted. It was a free-for-all to swap and find new treasures there. My brothers, friends and I would spend hours in Charlie, dressing up, playing pretend, diving into the troughs of clothes and hunting for new favourite toys or outfits.

Now a land-lubber, my love of Op Shops has continued and very much in line with my values of saving, not wasting, fair trade, care for environment and not buying into consumer culture. I make a conscious effort not to buy any clothing or household items new unless I really have to. Why buy new when an Op Shop find will do?

Over the last months I've tried to find ways to share my love of Op Shop rescuing with others. At first, I started upcycling old dolls I found. Then I moved onto repurposing scratched and unwanted records. I sell my creations through local markets and run classes in my little caravan for those who want to create their own treasures.
