Who are we?
YarnHB is a social media driven community of knitters & hookers (crocheters) in Hawkes Bay.
We were formed by two friends Clair & Sandra in April 2016 to teach crochet. It started with a small group of 4 in Clair’s lounge and now we hold 3 gatherings in Napier, Hastings & Havelock North, with 30+ in each group.
In 2017 we became involved in a project to knit slippers for under privileged Hawke’s Bay children,
which has now extended to clothing for newborns.

Our knitting community rallied behind the banner of ‘Knitting for Newborns’ and our goal to keep our vulnerable newborns warm.
Sadly in Hawke’s Bay 60% of babies leave hospital and go to cold homes, with little or inadequate clothing. Through our fundraising efforts - raffles, quiz night, sausage sizzles & calendar sales we raise funds to purchase wool which is then distributed to 300+ knitters across NZ, then returned and given directly to the DHB through the Out & About with Kids Hawke’s Bay ‘Our Babies’& to other community groups.
