Welcome to Piccalilli!

Exceptional children’s clothing handcrafted principally from natural fibres - vintage and contemporary. Working from the largest item down (coats ,capes, waistcoats ,tunics) fabric remnants are used for making smaller items (hats, scarves, bags) or bespoke detailing (hand covered buttons and appliqué.) Any remaining fabric is used to stuff or fill. Reversible where practical, heuristic where possible and made with minimal waste. Piccalilli clothing is beautiful, practical, and sustainable.

FAQ:
Q:Are these made from old blankets!?
Yes! The iconic NZ blanket. Toasty warm, durable and beautiful. An excellent quality fibre that has been given a new lease of life in this heirloom clothing. A little piece of history repurposed for another generation to cherish and pass down.

Q:What about sizing?
As wool doesn’t have as much “give” as other fabrics err on the side of getting bigger than you need. If in doubt all measurements (including those of the garments in the shop) are on the website www.piccalilli.co.nz and can be ordered online.

Q:I bought a gorgeous Piccalilli coat - but it doesn’t fit!
I am happy to exchange the item for a different size from stock which is currently available. Please note I cannot replicate exactly what you have bought due to the unique nature of what I make. Please check measurements on website before purchase.

Q:I love this coat but would like it in a different size.
My range is for ages 0-5 years but I am very happy to make bespoke items in larger children’s sizing. Please contact me to discuss options as pricing will vary with size.

Q:Are the clothes machine washable?
Yes. Wash as per wool/delicates in your machine at 40degrees max. Any hotter and the wool will felt and shrink.

Q:Do you only use natural fibres?
With the exception of the fleece lining for the elf hats (which would be itchy without lining) and some of the play capes (made from recycled retro fabrics), I prefer to use cotton, linen and wool.

Q: I would love to send this to my daughter in Dunedin/London:
I am very happy to arrange this for you and will get back to you with postage options/prices. All items will be sent gift wrapped.
