Painting from her home studio in Christchurch New Zealand, Louann’s current artistic practice is centered around exotic and oftentimes endangered animals as well as vibrant plant life. Working mainly in acrylic on plywood panels. Her work is highly detailed, created through meticulous layering. With the smallest of paintbrushes Louann emulates numerous textures, be it scales, fur or feathers. She hopes to capture and preserve these unique animals, immortalising her own versions of them by painting the vanishing beauty of our fragile planet. While trying to capture the majestic qualities of such exotic creatures, she also delves into the obsession with the exotic in Western culture, creating a modern menagerie of curios for your viewing pleasure. She celebrates the unique wonders and beauty of the natural world. Intentionally setting the glorious creatures against ambiguous backgrounds, shifting between natural habitats and manmade terrariums.
