Kia ora, my name is Adrienne Mulqueen. I first started weaving in Nelson in 1979. I loved it from the moment I threw my first weft and immediately felt I wanted to do nothing else but weave. But, as often happens in life, events take you in a different direction from where you think you are headed. But, as often happens, life goes in circles and now I can return to weaving.

I weave on floor looms and have several that are handmade in NZ. All my blankets are made from locally sourced, natural and sustainable material. Luxurious mohair and merino from Touch Yarn which is grown and dyed in Central Otago, NZ; Romney wool from the Otago Peninsula which has either been commercially spun or hand spun and dyed in my studio. The kitchen towels are woven from imported cotton and the hand towels from organic cotton and linen.

Textiles are often very beautiful and as a result tend to be tucked away safely in drawers and cupboards, brought out to be admired and then put away again.

To help change that I am trying to make beautiful textiles that can be used and loved and that will last. One of my first blankets, woven in 1979 for my new brand new niece, has had its tassels all loved off but it still on her bed.

I still weave blankets: for babies, for beds, for knees and for shoulders. I also weave kitchen towels and hand towels which are very absorbent and long lasting. Great to have a bit of art in the kitchen and bathroom. I also weave stoles, wraps and scarves, the occasional floor mat and bag.

I hope you enjoy looking though my shop. If you would like something made that isn't there please feel free to contact me for a one off commission.
