Important upcoming changes on Felt

We've got a few changes coming up on Felt and, as a seller, they will affect you. To avoid any confusion when we update the site on Sunday 13 February, we want to make sure you're familiar with changes that may affect your shop. Please read the following to ensure that you are prepared for the update.

Before the update...

Your shop header

Unfortunately HTML and widgets in shop headers are a real security risk for us. We don't want to be killjoys, but we also want Felt to be as safe and reliable as possible so if you have HTML in your header it will be removed automatically when we update the site. To ensure that its removal doesn't cause any odd formatting in your shop header, you may want to remove it yourself before this happens.

Shop headers will now be limited to 400 characters. This is to prevent your shop header from pushing the products in your shop down the page and out of sight when they should be in full view!

If your shop header is currently more than 400 characters, we recommend reducing it to 400 characters or less before Felt is updated on Sunday 13 February. If you don't manage to edit your shop header before the update, please be aware that when you do edit it, you may lose some content when Felt truncates it to 400 characters.

To edit your shop header, log in to Felt and go to My Account » Shop » Preferences

We're aware that 400 characters is pretty limited, but worry not – we'll be unveiling a couple of cool new features soon that will allow you to add more information to your shop.

After the update...

Shipping options

We are simplifying shipping options and introducing combined shipping options with this release.

The new system will combine shipping options on multiple purchases to present the simplest options for the buyer. If all your listings have the same shipping options then those are the options the buyer can choose from.

If the shipping options on your listings are different, Felt will do its best to combine them and offer the buyer a choice between cheapest and fastest shipping. In both cases as many shipping options as possible will be combined using the "with another item" prices where appropriate.

As a result of this update, some of the old shipping options will become obsolete. Felt will automatically update these on your existing listings as detailed below. Please check your listings after the update on Sunday 13 February to ensure that they have updated correctly and the prices are appropriate.

To check your shipping options, log in to Felt and check each listing individually. If the shipping options or prices are incorrect, you can edit these by selecting edit this listing in the right hand column.

Image treatment

There will also be some adjustments to image treatment with this update. We have increased the size and quality of main listing images and thumbnails and introduced a new system to keep your images looking sharp and bright when you upload them.

New sizes

Main listing image: 420 pixels wide by 318 pixels high
Small square thumbnails: 75 pixels square
All other image dimensions remain the same.

As a result of the automatic resizing, on some browsers you may notice some deterioration of old images after the update. You can remedy this easily by editing the listing**. When you save it, Felt will automatically regenerate the image from your original upload, which will improve the quality of the image to make it look better than ever.

**Please note that you don't need to upload new images – just click edit this listing in the right hand column of the listing and then click save at the bottom of the main edit page.

Thank you!

It's been great to have your feedback and suggestions, and we really appreciate your patience and co-operation as we work on improving Felt. Felt will be temporarily out of action from 12pm on Sunday 13 February while we update the site.
