Each of these earrings consists of a stack of five rich purple amethyst chips, piled on top of round 'crackle glass' beads in copper, securely wire-wrapped and suspended from antiqued-copper coloured ear hooks.

Amethyst is a variety of quartz, a naturally occurring, semiprecious stone. Amethyst is usually translucent and typically purple, ranging in colour from pale mauve to deep violet. It has been used as a gemstone in jewellery by many cultures, from the ancient Egyptians and Greeks to Anglo-Saxons and medieval Europeans.
Crackle glass has a cracked or 'shattered' appearance, and is often quite sparkly. It is smooth to the touch, but looks as though it is on the verge of shattering.

These amethyst chip earrings measure 49mm from top to bottom. From the bottoms of the ear hooks, the drops measure 31mm long, and the crackle-glass beads are 8mm across. The earrings are lightweight and easy to wear, and the ear hooks are without nickel.
