Motunau green watercolour paint
NZ $10.00
Artist quality, handmade paint prepared from a New Zealand pigment. Motunau green is an earth pigment, hand-ground into powder, and then made into paint using a traditional watercolour formula consisting of gum arabic, honey water, ox gall, oil of cloves (as preservative) and distilled water. The paint is then placed into watercolour half-pans.
This colour has the merest trace of green, and my geology book ('The Field Guide to N Z Geology' by Jocelyn Thornton) says the cliffs at Motunau are formed by the 'deepwater grey siltstone of Pliocene age', so I assume this pigment is this siltstone.
