Black Dolphin necklace: hand carved, semiprecious stone dolphin pendant on silver chain

These beautiful semiprecious stone dolphins are suspended from silver plated, curb style chain.

The little dolphins are hand-carved — so that each one has a slightly different character — from snowflake obsidian, which is a naturally occurring volcanic glass. The white 'snowflake' spots are inclusions of radially clustered crystals of the mineral cristobalite.
Many dolphin species have black and white coloured skin, so these dolphin pendants could represent the species of your choice.
I have lightened the photographs to show more detail, so the dolphins are actually blacker than they may appear in the images.

Each necklace fastens with a high quality, silver-plated lobster-claw clasp and ring. The clasp can actually be clipped into any of the links in the chain, making the necklaces easily adjustable, and each necklace can be reversed and worn with the dolphin facing either way. Each side of each dolphin will show slightly different markings.

Because all semiprecious stones are different, your dolphin pendant may be slightly different from the ones shown. The markings will vary from stone to stone, and from front to back of the stone (see the photographs). The ones in the photographs are a fairly average representation. If you have a preference for a dolphin with more or less white, just let me know and I'll send you a whiter or blacker pendant from the ones that I have available. Simply leave a message in the ‘notes for whiteleaf’ field that will appear when you check out of Felt.

Each necklace is approximately 46cm long, including the lobster-claw clasp. Being hand carved, the little dolphins vary slightly in size, measuring 32–35mm from beak to tail, and 19–21mm from dorsal fin to pectoral fins.
