Carnelian and antiqued brass beads on cord – versatile necklace or wrap bracelet

This wrap bracelet can also be worn as a necklace. It is made of pale beige cotton cord, laboriously knotted with semiprecious carnelian beads, antiqued-brass coloured ribbed beads, and small, smooth, antiqued-brass coloured beads. It fastens with an antiqued-brass coloured toggle clasp.
Near the ring part of the toggle clasp hangs a little bronze coloured leaf charm, as a finishing touch.

This multipurpose design wraps four times around the wrist. Alternatively, it can be worn as a necklace: wrapped twice around the neck to become a choker or collar, or worn as a single long, loose strand. The toggle clasp, with its design of rings and dots, can be worn at the back, as pictured, or turned to the front and worn as a decorative element of the design.

Carnelian is also called 'cornelian'. It is a variety of chalcedony, and its colour is usually orange: from pale to very dark. Hot wax does not stick to carnelian, so in Roman times it was frequently used in signet rings for stamping a hot wax seal on documents.
The carnelian beads in this bracelet/necklace are a rich, deep orange, almost red. The beads are more or less evenly spaced along the cord, alternating with the antiqued-brass coloured beads.

The bracelet is 75.5cm long, including both parts of the toggle clasp. It fits comfortably on a 17cm wrist and a bit loosely on a 16cm wrist. The carnelian beads, and the ribbed brass beads, are 6mm in diameter.
