Sock Monkey Pattern

Give someone a lovely gift, hand made by you!

Sock monkeys were first created in North America in the 1930s. During the great depression, toys were made out of whatever materials were available, including old socks. Sock monkeys hold an important place in North American culture as a symbol of ingenuity, and remain a popular toy to this day.

This is a pattern for a sock monkey using one pair of socks. The pattern is small enough that you can sew it entirely by hand, so a sewing machine is optional, although it is faster to do the first part with a sewing machine. The price does not include the sock monkey shown in the picture, he is a model only.

Depending on what size sock you use, the completed sock monkey will stand approximately 30-40cm tall. Check my other listings if you would like to buy a Make your own Sock Monkey Kit which contains a pair of new socks, felt pieces, plastic toy eyes, thread and sewing needles. These kits are great for providing boredom relief for a loved one who is sick or in hospital, a gift for a child who is learning to sew or for someone who loves crafty stuff during the holidays.

In addition to this pattern, you will also need:
* One pair socks
* Felt pieces
* Plastic toy eyes
* Stuffing
* Thread
* Needle
* Straight pins
* Marker pen
* Scissors
* Sewing machine is optional
