Kotahitanga Bird - Upcycled Vintage China Platter

Faced with a growing collection of vintage china (because I can never walk past a beautiful old plate!) I had to find a way to repurpose them and send them back out in to the world lest my studio actually burst at the seams....And so these decorative plates were born. This piece is part of my Kotahitanga series which translates to “unity”. It celebrates my dual heritage and calls for us to honour Te Tiriti annd live as a bi-cultural society with all the rich diversity that offers. The birds are a tūī/crow mash up dressed in iconic kiwiana imagery that symbolically represent both Māori and Pākeha.

This platter measures approximately 32 by 22cm. Ready to hang with a secure wire hanger on the back, invisible once hung on the wall. These beauties are strictly decorative, no serving your cheese scones off them I’m afraid. They can be cleaned by wiping with a warm damp cloth. Never submerge in water.
